This little girls newest obsession, walking the dogs at 6AM, 6AM people! The days are long gone where my baby slept in till 8, long gone are the days of private mornings to sip a coffee and plan our days. Now, G’s either climbing into our bed and karate kicking our head the first show of daylight or going to the front door calling for Mark while pulling on the dog leashes anticipating the morning dog walk with her daddy. And frankly it’s all making us well, tired.
Next week I’m speaking at North By North East in Toronto. G’s staying home with daddy this year (last year she came to NXNE, SXSW, AND CMJ with me). It’s me, my business partner, and assistant that are heading up together. I spoke last year but this year I’ve been invited to a handful of industry events and parties one that’s kind of an honor to be included in on, so it’s going to be a crazy and productive week for my record label.
Yet, as I’m thinking on next week rather then being excited to be surrounded by people in my industry (I only get this opportunity a few times a year) I can’t get my mind off of the mornings where god forbid I’ll be able to sleep into 9am, or shall I dare say 10!? In the peaceful quite of a hotel room. I’ll be able to eat three solid breakfasts over three days AND finish my morning coffee in peace, maybe even read a whole paper!!! I maybe stuffed into one hotel room with two men but honestly the opportunity to get sleep and not worry about getting ninja kicked at 5am is exciting me to no ends.
I love my kid, I love her so much but am not ashamed to say I’m looking forward to a break. Balancing staying home with the baby and keeping my company afloat is not really hard just takes every ounce of time and energy I have in me. Being able to just focus on me and work for a few days will be a welcomed, welcomed, rest. Who knows maybe if I can scrape the cash together I’ll even get a massage….now that’s crazy talk!
